281. Emma SHUTTLEWORTH

1838 Sophia Phoebe Wedderbourn (sic) [?e. d. of Jabez Wedderburn (3rd s. of Robert W. the 'B.P.') & Sophia Clarkson Surrage] m. James Shuttleworth on 26/3/1838 at St. Leonard's, Shoreditch. L/M IGI (& W.B. p. 506, footnote ø) [In March 1865, an 'Emma Shuttleworth' - who must be a daughter of Sophia Phoebe & James, was a witness at the second marriage of Sophia Phoebe's widowed sister Sarah (b. 1834). - In the 1881 Census, Sophia Shuttleworth, Tailoress, is shown as 'Head', aged 59 ('b. 225. James William WEDDERBURN

1824 James Wedderburn, e.s. of Jabez Wedderburn (3rd s. of Robert W. the 'B.P.') & Sophia [Clarkson Surrage], was bap. on 7/11/1824 at Christ Church, Spitalfields, Stepney. L/M IGI (Acc. to W.B. p. 506, James was born 'about 1821' & died 'before 1872' but he is the James Wedderburn shown in Misc. Refs., W.B. p. 508, as having died at the Alderbury Lunatic Asylum, Fisherton Anger, Salisbury, on 31/3/1869, aged 46.) - James died (from epilepsy) on Christmas Day 1869, at Fisherton House Asylum. He had m. Mary Ann Barrow in 1843 (q.v.). (They had 5 sons & 3 daughters.) - In 1869 Mary Ann was living at 10 John Street, East Street, Newington.. She m. ii) in 1872, Joseph Wright.]

1869 James Wedderburn died on 31/3/1869 at Alderbury lunatic asylum, Fisherton Anger, Salisbury, Wilts., aged 46. (Misc. Refs., W.B. p. 508 - where the date of death is given incorrectly.) - [Acc. to W.B. p. 506, James Wedderburn (e.s. of Jabez W. & Sophia Clarkson Surrage), 'was b. about 1821 and d. before 1872' but he was bap. in 1824 (q.v.), and died of epilepsy at Fisherton House Asylum, Salisbury, on 25/12/1869. (The Asylum's records show that when James was admitted, in 1867, "he was in a state of mania, having the delusion that an angel came to him with waving hair /a female/ whilst in bed and imparted great knowledge to him"!)] - James' widow, Mary Ann (née Barrow) m. ii) in 1872, Joseph Wright. - W.B. p. 506

1870 Jane Sophia Wedderburn [3rd & ygst. d. of James Wedderburn (grandson of Robert W. the 'B.P.'), & Mary Ann Barrow (m. 1843)] described as 'd. of James Wedderburn, scale-maker', m. Edward Wasey, a Smith (s. of Thomas Wasey, shoemaker) on 24/7/1870 at St. John's Church, Waterloo. (W.B. p. 506 & m. cert.) [In the 1881 Census, Jane Wasey 'aged 26, b. at Salford, Lancs.', & Edward Wasey, Blacksmith 'aged 33, b. Fakenham, Norfolk', were living (with four children) at 22 Wayford St., Battersea, Surrey - the same address as Mary Ann (née Barrow) and her second husband, Joseph Wright (m. 1872). It would seem therefore that at Jane is Mary Ann's daughter. - However, as James W's younger brother Jabez (b. 1827) apparently had a daughter Sarah 'Waterburn' bap. at Hayfield, Derbyshire, in 1845 (a year before he married Harriett Basson) - the same year that Mary Ann & James had a daughter Sophia (who died in 1849), I suspect that Jane Wasey may be aged 36 (not 26) and is really Mary Ann's niece 'Sarah Waterburn', not her daughter.]

Mary Ann BARROW

It was proved by Harriett, the sole executrix, on 13/2/1882.]

(W.B. p. 507 - where it says that 'Eliza m. George Gaddes at Islington in 1860'. - This obviously cannot be so, although an Eliza W. 'd. of Jabez Wedderburn, scalemaker', did m. a George Gaddes in 1860, q.v. - See also the marriage of Eliza Wedderburn & Henry Dykins in 1855.)
